pbl.jpg MEDICOL (Medicine and Dentistry Integrated Curriculum On-Line) is a WebCT-based curriculum and learning objects repository which supports the Expanded Medical Program (EMP) between UBC, UVIC and UNBC. MEDICOL is used as a portal to library eresource webpages. I use a Cold-Fusion Database form to create ereserve library webpages for PBL. Each problem based course is divided up into topical weeks that involve a series of lectures where a case is presented midweek, resources are time-released and the students resolve their cases in a group.

  • library webpage maintenance, resource layout and content management
  • Organized and maintained case week, released electronic and print materials according to the established timeline. Successfully Implemented electronic shelf reading schedule to maintain integrity of electronic resources. Heroically troubleshot resource and webpage issues at critical periods which enabled the students to complete their cases within a time constraint
  • Proposed, designed, developed and wrote library assistant job manual for the Problem Based Learning (PBL) e-reserve to serve as a reference for other university reserve units starting similar programs. Project currently in progress
  • MEDICOL Website Planning Workshop 2004 – contributing member of this focus group which resulted in a set of objectives that included strengthening the online community between medical faculty and students for the recently implemented Expanded Medical Program (EMP).
  • MEDICOL Committee (2003) – A subcommittee formed under the ITMC (Information Transmission Management Committee) to discuss processes and strategies around Problem Based Learning resource collection, distribution and the tasks associated with these resources. Contributed insights and generated ideas regarding the workflow and issues that surround the organization of the PBL library resources which were found insightful by the attending medical faculty members.
  • Attended conferences on e-learning, PBL, social learning programs and WebCT which resulted in the ability to add and recommend creative solutions to the workplace such as including a blog to facilitate communication between the EMP satellite locations.
  • Top Ten Tips for PBL (PDF format): This is a poster I developed of my top ten tips for surviving the PBL universe.
  • I also created the following guide to give people an idea as to what is involved in making PBL library webpages successful: On-Line Verification Techniques: How to Make Your Life Simpler in the PBL Universe - (available in print format only)
