Bon Cop Bad Cop is the gut-busting new offering to the growing area of mainstream Canadian Movies. Patrick Huard as Dave Bouchard, is the swearin’ beer drinkin’ French-Canadian cop who believes without a doubt that all english-speaking Canadians know naught about the Quebcois, is the perfect foil for Colm Feore as Martin Ward the straight-laced cop with “Ontario up his ass”. The two are brought together to solve a murder mystery when a corpse mysteriously appears on top of the “Welcome to Ontario/You Are Leaving” Quebec sign. Disparities in cultural and personality differences give way to terrific comic relief as each takes a jab at each others ignorances. I couldn’t help but wonder if an American audience would find humour here. The seriousness of the murder contrasts with the sharp-witted dry humour of the verbal exchanges between the cops.
