I spent the last couple of weekends shooting some film of different areas in Kitsilano but I will usually bring my digital along as a backup. There have been a couple of time where I had run out of film and it was quite handy! In another case I finished up my film roll and it only rewound itself halfway as it lost power from my batteries. Ack! It was a trip to the L&S store to get them to get my film out in their black box. It was a scary moment as I was shooting for an assignment.
I truly love shooting with film and I’ll never completely give it up. I think that it’s going the way of the vinyl record. I attended Vancouver Barcamp 2006 last weekend and it was a hit! One of the highlights was Photocamp hosted by the likes of Warwick Patterson, Kris Krug and Matt Trentlacoste (PHD student at UBC). It was a one hour session and had a lot of cool goodies for us to gander at. Matt was up first and showed us some online demos of prototypes of what he is working on at UBC. Vancouver Photobloggers is a cool newish blog with a flickr group post feed for those that obsess with the camera. There are currently 15 members with 62 photo posts and growing. “A collective of Vancouver photographers seeking out others to collaborate with on upcoming shows, share techniques and just see what happens…” (quoted from Vancouver Photobloggers ‘about’ page). The latest offerings of photos are outdoor photographs with warm earthy tones.

Barcamp Vancouver will take place at the Bryght office in Gastown on April 25/26. While all 90 spots are now full there is a very short waitlist so it’s still possible to sign up. What is barcamp? It’s an adhoc unconference where like-minded tech geeks get together to discuss their fave topics. Check out the wikipedia definition.
