Mail Art - Creative Collaboration

Recently I was perusing the discussion http://www.terminus1525.ca/node/40117 on the collaborative art network website terminus1525.ca which circled around mail art. This form of art collaboration has been going on since the 1950s whereby artists use the mail as a medium sending art pieces via the postal system and the recipient adding to the art and forwarding back and forth as a means to create a unique art piece. According to Wikipedia:
“One theme in mail art is that of commerce-free exchange; early mail art was, in part, a snub of gallery art, juried shows, and exclusivity in art. A saying in the mail art movement is “senders receive,” meaning that one must not expect mail art to be sent to them unless they are also actively participating in the movement.”
With the ease of the helper software such as photoshop and illustrator there are people who while they may have found that they were not suitable to traditional hands on art have successfully developed artistic skills via the digital medium. With the advent and popularity of digital art and the ease with which new artists are creating pieces there is an over saturation in the market of digital art. I believe because of this ease in creating digital art a higher value will be placed on traditional arts and crafts.
Interestingly enough, online collaboration websites such as terminus1525.ca are promoting traditional art forms, reviving long lost arts and spreading the word about new types of art styles. This can run the gamut from mail art to reverse graffiti http://www.terminus1525.ca/. The idea of collaboration among artists to create unique art pieces and providing a forum to exchange ideas is exciting and innovative.
So cool.
